The Food Recovery Program is the other main program of the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank. This program is responsible for the sorting, cleaning, inspecting, and repacking of donated salvage food. The food recovery area utilizes the majority of volunteers. Food recovery is one of the most important jobs! Staff and volunteers sort through donated new, slightly damaged and sometimes not-fit-for-
consumption products. This process is keeping good food going out to shelters, pantries and on-site feeding programs where it is distributed through take home family boxes or prepared meals to those who are in need. Each food and/or grocery product is evaluated to determine what is safe for distribution and what needs to be discarded. A short training film and help from staff give you the knowledge needed for this task.
