Kids Cafe
Kids Cafe is a nationwide program of Feeding America that provides healthy after-school meals to hungry children, ages one through 18 years, along with nutrition education, enrichment activities and adult supervision. The local Kids Cafe program of the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank feeds children at the following youth service clubs:
- Burkburnett Boys & Girls Club, Burkburnett
- Camp Fire USA, Wichita Falls
- Central Boys & Girls Club, Wichita Falls
- Northeast Boys & Girls Club, Wichita Falls
- Northwest Boys & Girls Club, Wichita Falls
- Rosewood Boys & Girls Club, Wichita Falls
- Southeast Boys & Girls Club, Wichita Falls
- Southwest Boys & Girls Club, Wichita Falls
- Southside Youth Senter, Wichita Falls
Yet another collaborative partner in our Kids Cafe program is Senior Citizens Services of North Texas, where meals for all but one site are prepared.
Our local Kids Cafe program has grown from a lone pilot site feeding an average of 54 children in 2005 to nine locations serving an average of 474 children in 2010.
Kids Cafe is largely supported through grants and gifts from individuals and organizations. Rising meal preparation costs and limited funding have postponed the expansion of this program. Funds are needed to ensure the children being served through Kids Cafe will continue to have their needs met in 2012.
